A letter from the Society Chairman

Dear fellow Society members,

I trust that you are all well and staying safe in the current strange circumstances resulting from the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Along with other similar organisations, as you know, we had to cancel our planned monthly talks in March and April this year and an outing in May. The Society officers met recently to consider the longer-term future of Society events. With the safety of all our members and staff as the top priority and being aware of the possibility of another increase in the Covid 19 infection rate in the autumn, the following important decisions were made.

The Annual General Meeting of the Society, planned for 18th September 2020, will not now take place. It is intended that, depending on circumstances at that time, the AGM will be held in early 2021, on a date to be decided later.

Our annual Society journal, The Glynns, originally due to be launched at the AGM in September, will also be delayed until early 2021 and will hopefully be launched at the re-scheduled AGM mentioned above.

The lectures planned for Friday 16th October 2020 and Friday 20th November 2020 will not now take place. It is intended, again depending on circumstances, that monthly lectures will resume in early 2021 and I hope to welcome all of you to these popular talks as we go forward into the new year.

Because of the curtailment of the lectures this year and the delay in the publication of The Glynns, no annual membership fee will be charged for 2020.

The committee of the Glens of Antrim Historical Society will keep these decisions under constant review and you will be notified in advance of any possible changes, and of re-scheduled dates for lectures etc.

I would ask you to please keep in touch through the Society website.  Also, be aware that the Society can still be contacted by members, and by the public, through the email address and the office telephone number shown above.

In conclusion, on behalf of the committee, I wish to thank all of you for your support of the Society over the years, by renewing your annual membership, by attending our monthly lectures and other events, by purchasing our publications, and by visiting our office in The Old Schoolhouse, Cushendall. It is my fervent hope that we will all be able to resume our normal Society activities in 2021. Until then, stay safe.
