http://SONGS AND POEMS OF THE GLENS Often the only way in which aspects of local history has been recorded is in the form of songs and poems and this has been the case in the Glens of Antrim. This month the Society will present a number of these songs and poems recited or sung by locals, in some cases, with a personal connection to the author. In the past nearly every parish seems to have had its bard who often commemorated local events and characters, often in a humorous way, and some have carried on this tradition into more modern times. This presentation, almost a concert, will draw on the work of James Stoddart Moore (Dusty Rhodes), Dan McGonnell (Cushendall), James Delargy (Glenariff), John McCormick (Glenshesk)and Geordie Wheeler (Glenariff) among others. The poems will be introduced by Society member Donnell O’Loan and the songs by noted musician Sean Quinn, residing in Cushendun, who will also sing one of his own compositions, “The Glens Flood”.
