The November meeting of the Glens of Antrim Historical Society will
take place on Friday 22nd at 8.00 pm in St. Mary’s Parish Centre,
Cushendall. It consists of a commemoration in poetry and song of how
the Armistice and the aftermath of World War One were remembered by
the different nations which had taken part in that conflict. The
choir of the Glens and Dalriada U3A, under the direction of Mrs
Margaret Diamond and accompanied on the piano by Mary Blayney will perform such well-known favourites as ‘Roses of
Picardy’, ‘Pack up your troubles, ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’,
‘Over There’ and ‘The Minstrel Boy’. There will also be solo
performances by Catriona O’Keefe and James Skivington and recordings
of ‘Lili Marlene’, ‘Ol’ Man River’ and ‘The Green Fields of France’.
The poetry readings, under the direction of Mrs F. Connolly, feature
works by Robert Graves, Laurence Binyon, Wilfred Owen, T.S. Eliot and
W.B.Yeats and will be recited by members of the U3A choir, as will
some of the famous sayings and speeches of the era.Everybody is welcome to come along and enjoy a memorable evening’s
