The project offers opportunities to bridge the generation gap. Schools have taken advantage of the project to invite people into the schools to talk to children or to allow children to interview adults and so a sharing of knowledge can take place.
Glenaan PS invited the farmer who owns the land on which Knockban, the site they studied, is situated. He was able share his local knowledge with the children, especially fieldnames and anecdotes about the settlement.
The children asked questions and offered theories as to why the settlement was abandoned by the residents.
St. John’s and Glenarm PS conducted interviews with local people and some extracts from these interviews are on the Straidkilly page.
St. Ciaran’s invited Mrs Scally, the grandmother of one of the pupils, to share memories of her young days with them. One child videoed the session and made a DVD of the interview.
