Among the various activities recently held to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Edinburgh University was a session of Mastermind. It was conducted in the Queen’s Square Theatre by that master inquisitor Magnus Magnusson, himself a former rector of the University. One question was "What foreign monarch resided for some years in the Palace of Holyrood House?" Nobody in the team or in the audience to whom it was put knew the answer. That is not until the great booming voice of Hugh Alexander Boyd thundered, "Charles X of France". We congratulate him on his unique erudition, on having attended both the 350th and 400th anniversaries of the University and in particular on his degree of M.Phil. recently conferred in respect of his thesis on the clergy of the parish church of St. Patrick, Coleraine 1609 – 1871.
