Change of Lecture

The Glens of Antrim Historical Society
Talk on Friday 21st April 2023

The next presentation in the Society’s programme of lectures will take place on Friday 21 st
April 2023, in St Mary’s Parish Centre, Cushendall, commencing at 8.00pm.
The speaker for the evening is Ballintoy man Maurice McHenry and the subject of his talk is
“North Antrim Connections with Slavery in Jamaica.” Maurice spent all of his career in
education and is a former Principal of Our Lady of Lourdes School, Ballymoney. He has a
keen interest in local history and is a founder member and current chairman of Ballintoy
Archaeological and Historical Society, established in 2010, Maurice’s book, “John Clarke –
A Potato Wizard”, was published in 2012 and it tells the story of John Clarke, the pioneering
North Antrim potato breeder.
All are welcome to attend. Admission for members is free with a £3 charge for visitors. Light
refreshments are served at the conclusion of the meeting.
